The 19th Goodguys Southwest Nationals in Scottsdale, Arizona, is in full swing on the opening day. As always, WestWorld is packed with thousands of great street rods, classic trucks, street machines, and street cruisers competing for attention from spectators and for awards frome the Goodguys judges.
The Southwest Nationals is the final event in a 20-show Goodguys season that began way back in March at this same location. Goodguys has awarded close to 2,000 vehicles in that time span, but the most prestigious of then all are the dozen awards that make up the Top 12 program. Most of those 12 winners-such as Street Rod of the Year, Hot Rod of the Year, Street Machine of the Year, Truck of the Year, and others–have been selected by the time Goodguys comes back to Scottsdale in November. One of the remaining awards that will be determined this weekend is Custom Rod of the Year.
Goodguys defines a Custom Rod at a 1949-1972 vintage style customized vehicle that “tastefully blends customizing techniques or factory stock bodies with modern day performance, engineering, components and styling.”
The seven finalists in the Custom Rod category were chosen at seven earlier Goodguys events around the country during the course of the 2016 season. Those seven are here at the Southwest Nationals where the winning Custom Rod of the Year will be announced on Saturday. Here are those seven finalists. Which one do you think deserves the award? Check back later to find out which of these incredible cars is the Goodguys 2016 Custom Rod of the Year.
